Ralph Comer is the Assistant Chief of the Bureau of Environment and Planning of the Tennessee Department of Transportation. The Bureau coordinates transportation and environmental planning for four Divisions, including Environment, Long-Range Planning, Project Planning and Multimodal. The Bureau has extensive public and local government involvement in project development.
Comer graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1972 and began his career with the department in 1973. He attended the University of Tennessee – Nashville from 1975 – 1977 where he was enrolled in the graduate program in Public Administration. He served for seventeen years as the Statewide Metropolitan Planning Organization Coordinator, five years as Planning Director for the former Planning Division and six years as Assistant Director of the Long-Range Planning Division.
In March 2009, he was appointed to serve on TDOT’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Oversight Committee and currently serves as TDOT’s Liaison to the Governor’s Office of Tennessee Recovery Act Management.
