June 29, 2006, was the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Federal Highway Act of 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. This landmark legislation set the wheels in motion for the development of one of the most significant contributing factors in our nation’s – and our state’s – growth, economy and mobility – the interstate system.
This
commemorative Web site was designed to share information
about the history of Tennessee’s interstate building era and
engage Tennesseans in the celebration. Even though the
anniversary year is history, we will continue to maintain
interstate information as a resource for our website
visitors.
