I-40 Bridge over the French Broad River in Jefferson County

Re-decking and Rehabilitation

Project Details

This is a rehabilitation of the I-40 Bridge over the French Broad River in Jefferson County.  Constructed in 1960, it's one of only 36 steel truss bridges still in operation across the state.  The 2,400-foot bridge currently carries over 27,000 cars a day in each direction along I-40. As a part of TDOT’s bridge inspection program, the I-40 bridge was identified in need of repair.  From the comprehensive inspection report, plans have been developed to address any of the current needs and increase the life expectancy of the bridge for years to come.
