TRAFFIC ALERT:  Please be advised that the turning lane in the area of the Tennessee School of Beauty will be eliminated in the next 2 days.  This work is necessary so that the contractor can continue to work on widening Western Avenue.  One lane of travel in each direction will remain open to traffic.  Please be alert through this section of roadway and travel slowly.  Asphalt paving operations will also continue over the next two weeks in this area.

Project Description

The proposed project consists of reconstructing the existing two lane roadway to a five-lane facility. The proposed improvements will be along its present alignment. The proposed design will consist of 4-12 foot traffic lanes, a 12 foot center lane, 10 foot outside shoulders, 2 foot curb & gutter, and 5 foot wide sidewalks. The project begins at Schaad Road and extends approximately 3.9 miles to Copper Kettle Road.

Purpose of Project

The purpose of the improvement is to correct the geometric, structural, operational, and safety deficiencies on this section of State Route 62.

  1. Improve safety and designed to reduce congestion, delay, and improve the overall efficiency of the roadway
  2. Enhanced economic development opportunities within the project area
  3. Improved circulation among the communities in the project area
  4. Improved regional accessibility through the project area
