HISTORY

Built between 1930 - 1931
6 span arch bridge
Original cost: $1.15 million
Constructed with 32,500cubic yards of concrete
Designed for 6 travel lanes
1,793 feet long
Opened January 2, 1932 with great fanfare
Took the name from Henley Street - named after Col. David Henley(1749-1823), Revolutionary War hero
2008 - Average Daily Traffic (ADT) - 38,813 or 14,166,745 vehicles per year
2022 - Projected Daily Traffic - 53,000 or 19,345,000 vehicles per year
36% ADT increase by 2022

1971 - $208,000 project to repair the bridge deck and repave
1987 - $2 million project to repair expansion joints, concrete railings, support columns and decking including a 48-foot section of deteriorated concrete railing
1991 - City of Knoxville installed new lighting system
2004 - Urgent repairs necessary to deteriorated riding surface and decking, which allowed water seepage causing chipping and cracking to some of the concrete support beams and columns
