Project Description
The interchange at Interstate 55 and Mallory Avenue is a vital link to the growing industrial area at the Frank C. Pidgeon Industrial Park. Freight traffic exits I-55 at the Mallory Avenue exit and negotiates Riverport Road to various industries along Riverport Road.
The current interchange is a partial cloverleaf that has been modified over the years. In order to meet the current traffic demands and the limited right-of-way the interchange is being upgraded to a Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI). This type of interchange is often used in urban areas where right-of-way is limited.
The project will consist of widening and replacing Interstate 55 with 3 lanes in each direction. The bridges over Mallory avenue, the Canadian National Railroad, and Riverport Road will all be widened and replaced. Mallory Avenue and Riverport Road will also be widened and replaced. A bridge will be constructed on Riverport Road over the Canadian National rail spur that enters the refinery adjacent to Riverport Road.
