Project Description
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) are proposing the improvement of Interstate 65 to relieve congestion levels and improve safety. The section of Interstate 65 within the Franklin Urban Boundary between State Route 840 to State Route 96, is also included in the August 2004 Franklin Major Thoroughfare Plan for improvement with recommendations to widen from two to four lanes in each direction.
The I-65 Widening Project will consist of the widening of I-65 from two to four lanes in each direction all within the existing right-of-way. The specific project limits are from north of State Route 840 to north of State Route 96, a total of 6.5 miles. In addition, the project scope will include the modification of the interchange at State Route 248 (Goose Creek) and widening of the State Route 248 approaches to the interchange from two lanes to four.
Construction on the section on the I-65 from north of State Route 248 to north of State 96 is scheduled for completion by the end of 2012.
The interchange modification at State Route 248 and the remaining section of I-65 from State Route 840 to State Route 248 are now listed in the current TDOT budget program and are scheduled to begin construction in the Spring of 2013.
