Project Description
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) are proposing the improvement of Interstate 65 to relieve congestion levels and improve safety. The section of Interstate 65 within the Franklin Urban Boundary between State Route 840 to State Route 96, is also included in the August 2004 Franklin Major Thoroughfare Plan for improvement with recommendations to widen from two to four lanes in each direction.
The I-65 Widening Project will consist of the widening of I-65 from two to four lanes in each direction all within the existing right-of-way. The specific project limits are from north of State Route 840 to north of State Route 96, a total of 6.5 miles. In addition, the project scope will include the modification of the interchange at State Route 248 (Goose Creek) and widening of the State Route 248 approaches to the interchange from two lanes to four.
A section on the I-65 from north of State Route 248 to north of State 96 has been under construction since November 2010.
The interchange modification at State Route 248 and the remaining section of I-65 from State Route 840 to State Route 248 is currently not funded for construction, but could be funded by the next fiscal year of 2013.
