The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is responsible for the state's highways and other forms of transportation, such as aviation, public transit, waterways and railroads.

Tennessee's road system stretches 87,259 miles, enough to circle the world more than three times. Of the 87,259 miles of roads, 13,752 miles are maintained by TDOT. Included in the state highway system are 1,074 miles of interstate highways.
