Kingsport Regional ITS Architecture
The Kingsport Regional ITS Architecture development process was led by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) in coordination with the Kingsport Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The Region is defined by the boundaries of the Kingsport MPO and includes portions of Sullivan County TN, Hawkins County TN, Washington County TN, and Scott County VA.
The Kingsport Region is adjacent to the Johnson City Region and Bristol Region. The Johnson City Regional ITS Architecture was completed in 2006 and the Bristol Regional ITS Architecture was developed concurrently with the Kingsport Region. The close proximity to the Bristol Region and the fact that both Regions are located in Sullivan County TN and TDOT Region 1, and also involve the VDOT Bristol District, created an overlap in many of the stakeholders. Three of the four workshops held during the development of the Kingsport Regional ITS Architecture and Deployment Plan were conducted in coordination with workshops being held for the Bristol Region to facilitate coordination and consistency.
