In 2013 a Freight Advisory Committee (FAC) was established to assist with the direction of Freight Planning in Tennessee. There is one statewide executive committee and three regional committees (West TN, Middle TN, and East TN).
The FAC held a joint meeting on December 13, 2013 in Nashville. This included participation from public sector, private sector, and academic members of the freight community throughout the state. Commissioner John Schroer spoke to the committee's membership and stressed the need for transportation funding in Tennessee as well as the remainder of the country. There was also a roundtable discussion with several statewide freight leaders to discuss issues and possible solutions in Tennessee. The Draft Highway Primary Freight Network Maps for Tennessee was also a topic of conversation throughout the day.
The meeting included presentations from the Long Range Planning Division regarding the Tennessee Statewide Multimodal Freight Plan and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) discussed the improvements that the current transportation legislation, MAP-21, will have on freight movement across the country. Please find links to the presentations below.
The committees are planning to meet again in early 2014 in order to select officers. The chairpersons of the three regional committees will represent their regions on the overall statewide committee.
