Fifth Avenue Reopens to Traffic

Knoxville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced today that a section of Fifth Avenue from Hall of Fame Drive to Lamar Street will reopen to traffic on Monday afternoon, May 4, 2009. The street had been closed since May 7, 2008 to permit bridge demolition and reconstruction as part of the SmartFIX40 project in downtown Knoxville.

This renovated section of Fifth Avenue now includes: new curb and gutter, sidewalks, street lighting, traffic signals, turn lanes and landscaping. In addition, the new portion of Fifth Avenue is now aligned with Magnolia Avenue after crossing Hall of Fame Drive.
