Governor Bredesen Announces Enhancement Grant for Petersburg Nashville, Tenn. — Governor Phil Bredesen announced today that the state will provide the city of Petersburg in Lincoln County with an enhancement grant in the amount of $40,000 to assist with Phase One of the Petersburg Greenway. “This trail will link downtown Petersburg with residential areas, historic landmarks, the Senior Center, and public parking,” said Governor Bredesen. “It is a project that everyone in the city can enjoy. I’m proud the State of Tennessee can make investments like this to enhance local communities for the benefit of citizens and visitors alike.” “The Greenway will create a beautiful and safe environment for people who we hope will use it frequently to get from place to place in town, for practical purposes or for recreation,” added Representative Curt Cobb. “I’m thrilled to have been able to assist with this grant process.” The grant is made possible through a federally funded program administered by the Tennessee Department of Transportation. “Including this year’s enhancement grants, TDOT has helped fund approximately $189 million worth of transportation related projects such as the restoration of historic facilities, bike and pedestrian trails, landscaping and other non-traditional transportation projects,” said TDOT Commissioner Gerald Nicely. “These grants were made possible in the 1990s when Congress established a grant system funding activities designed to strengthen the cultural, aesthetic and environmental aspects of the nation’s transportation system.” Phase One of the Petersburg Greenway will consists of 1,400 feet of walkway, which will originate at Lane Street and extend in a northwest direction along Cane Creek, ending at the downtown area. Senator Bill Ketron is also a member of the Tennessee General Assembly representing Lincoln County. |
