TDOT Region Four Will Host Earth Day 2008 in Jackson

Jackson, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation Region Four will host EARTH DAY 2008 on April 19, 2008 from 10:00 am till 2:00 pm at the Region Four Complex located at Exit 76 on I-40.

This is the second year in a row that TDOT’s Region Four has hosted the Earth Day celebration at their offices.

“We are proud to again host an EARTH DAY celebration at TDOT and hope everyone will bring their families for the food, fun, and festivities,” said Region Four Director Chuck Rychen.  “We have planned a number of festivities including live music, numerous green exhibits from local businesses, paper shredding, recycling zones, and plenty of fun activities for the kids.”

Earth Day began as a grassroots effort back in the early 1960's by Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin and has since evolved to the many festivals and celebrations that take place across the world on this date set aside to bring awareness to the plight of our physical and natural environments.  The concept was originated to educate people about the Earth and the threats we pose to our environment and to our planet.  TDOT has embraced this tradition by planning and hosting this event for the citizens and communities in and around Jackson/Madison County.
