TDOT Announces Decision on Final Portion of I-69 from Millington to Dyersburg
Alternative O4F Selected for Portion of I-69 in Lauderdale County

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely announced today that the department is recommending Alternative O4F as the final section of the Millington to Dyersburg portion of the I-69 project.  Known as segment 8, the final section is located entirely within Lauderdale County.  The preferred route was identified as a result of input from citizens during numerous public meetings and from various resource agencies.

“This is a major milestone for the I-69 project,” said Nicely.  “After input from numerous citizens and officials it was clear that this was the preferred alternative. When complete, this project will help improve current driving conditions, create a safer environment for motorists, and will enhance economic potential for this area.”

TDOT developed Alternative O4F as a result of public input on the project.  The selected alternate begins just north of the Hatchie River, travels east around Henning and Ripley, then northwest across Highway 51 to a point near Gates where it intersects with Alternate R west of Highway 51 near Mill Creek Road in Lauderdale County.  The total length of Alternative O4F is nearly 24 miles.  The entire Segment 8 section from Millington to Dyersburg is 65 miles and includes the counties of Shelby, Tipton, Lauderdale and Dyer.

Now that a final alignment for segment 8 of the I-69 corridor in Tennessee has been identified TDOT will move forward with a Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the entire segment.

The proposed project will be built to interstate design standards and will consist of a divided four-lane, access controlled facility that will include interchanges at major crossroads.

The primary purpose of the project is to advance the completion of the Congressionally-designated Interstate 69.  The project is intended to address future traffic issues along the US 51 corridor; improve substandard or inadequate roadway system connections along the corridor; and to complement economic development efforts in the immediate area of the corridor.
