Bredesen Announces Enhancement Grant for City of Wartrace in Bedford Co.

Nashville, Tenn. - Governor Phil Bredesen announced today that the state will provide the Town of Wartrace with an enhancement grant in the amount of $43,440 for the Wartrace Downtown Revitalization Project.

The funds will be used to make several improvements to Wartrace’s historic downtown area, including the addition of decorative features and landscaping.

“This community has already made great efforts to preserve the historic nature of the downtown district,” said Governor Bredesen. “I’m pleased that we are able to provide this enhancement grant to the Town of Wartrace so that these revitalization efforts can continue.”

“I’m pleased that Governor Bredesen and TDOT have dedicated these funds for the Wartrace Revitalization project,” said Representative Curt Cobb. ”It will make this area even more inviting to residents, tourists and businesses.”

The grant is made possible through a federally funded program administered by the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

“Through the Enhancement Grant Program, TDOT has helped fund approximately $189 million in transportation related projects such as the restoration of historic facilities, bike and pedestrian trails, landscaping and other non-traditional transportation projects,” said TDOT Commissioner Gerald Nicely.

The federal grant program was established by Congress in the early 1990’s to fund activities designed to strengthen the cultural, aesthetic and environmental aspects of the nation’s transportation system.

The project includes decorative lighting, benches, trash receptacles, and sidewalk repair.

Senator Jim Tracy also helped secure these grant funds for Wartrace.
