State Route 22

(from State Route 21 to Cates Landing Road, Lake County, Tennessee)

Project Description

This project has been initiated at the request of the local government and area state representatives. Multiple groups, such as the Lake County officials, the Army Corps of Engineers, the Northwest Port Authority Board, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation, have collaborated throughout the development process to ensure that the transportation needs envisioned by the local community are coordinated.

The road improvement proposal is to widen SR-78 from SR-21 to 0.3 miles north of SR-21 from a two-lane section to a three-lane section with 4-ft shoulders and curb and gutter. From 0.3 miles north of SR-21 to 0.54 miles north of SR-21, SR-78 will be widened to two 12-ft travel lanes with 10-ft shoulders within approximately 250-ft of right-of-way. At this point, the road will continue to the northwest on new location for approximately 1.55 miles until intersecting existing SR-22 about 2 miles north of SR-21. The same cross section (two 12-ft travel lanes with 10-ft shoulders within approximately 250-ft of right-of-way) continues north to Cates Landing Road.

Total project length is 4.72 miles.
