Project Background
Existing Conditions State Route 22 in Lake County is functionally classified as a Rural Major Collector on the State Highway system, which begins at State Route 21 and terminates at the Tennessee-Kentucky state line, a total distance of approximately 10.49 miles. The proposed project length is approximately 4.65 miles beginning at State Route 78 and extending to Cates Landing Road in the City of Tiptonville. The existing route is two-lanes, composed of two 10’ travel lanes, with two 4’ shoulders with ditches. These travel lanes are lane-width deficient and do not meet current design standards. The projected base year (2012) annual average daily traffic (AADT) along this route ranges from a low of 7,620 to a high of 8,400. This is based on 2005 cycle counts. The projected design year (2032) AADT traffic ranges from a low of 15,240 to a high of 16,110. Future traffic is based on the development of the Port of Cates Landing Intermodal Regional Industrial Park. The Tennessee-Kentucky (TENNKENN) railroad currently provides freight service for area industry. Trucking is also a dominant means of moving goods to from local business and industry. |
